Did You Know There Are Different Types Of Ovarian Cysts?

Types of Ovarian Cysts – part I

If you or someone close to you suffers from ovarian cyst, you probably want to know more about this painful condition: starting with the types of ovarian cysts and their description could help you with allover understanding of this illness.

There are several different types of ovarian cysts that have different causes and are treated differently. Let me introduce you all of these types of ovarian cysts and tell you some basic information about each of them. Maybe you want to find out what type you have and learn about possible ovarian cyst treatment.

Functional Ovarian Cyst

Functional ovarian cyst is type that has three variations: Follicular Cyst, Corpus Luteum Cyst and Haemorrhagic Cyst.

Follicular Cyst

Follicular cyst is the most common type of ovarian cyst.

At most of the cases follicular cyst appears on its own and doesn’t last longer then few weeks. Mostly they just disappear without treatment. Follicular cyst normally doesn’t grow bigger then 5-6cm.

This type of cyst happens when the follicle doesn’t loosen up the egg or when the liquid of follicle doesn’t go away. It starts filling up with more and more liquid instead.

Despite of its huge occurrence, it still may not be the type of ovarian cyst you suffer from. So what are other types?

Corpus Luteum Cyst

Corpus Luteum Cyst is not that usual type of ovarian cyst but it causes more problems and emergencies, mainly for internal bleeding that occurs with them.

Its name comes from the “corpus luteum” which is basically a tissue that is leftover after the egg has released. This type of cyst is filled with a fluid and can grow over 6cm. Often corpus luthem cyst dissolves in few months time but sometimes it happen to rupture.

Ruptured ovarian cyst causes intense sudden pain and internal bleeding and mostly has to lead to urgent ovarian cyst surgery. If you were diagnosed with Corpus Luteum cyst and it has not ruptured and if your doctor also agree that the cyst is not dangerous to you at the moment, it is better to wait. Undergoing operation can do some other damage such as forming adhesions, scars and allover weaken your organism.

Corpus Luteum cyst is also fairly common cyst to appear during pregnancy, especially at the early stage. Treatment in these cases in mostly not drastic as they disappear in second trimester or after the pregnancy. When the Corpus Luteum cyst was detected with you, I strongly recommend to avoid using ibuprofen, ginko biloba and aspirin, as they make your condition much worse. Unfortunately more than 30% women who had sufferd Corpus Luteum cyst will meet their reccurrence.

Haemorrhagic Cyst

Haemorrhagic cyst is the same substance as Corpus Luteum Cyst. It is filled with blood instead of fluid. Also its treatment is more or less similar to Corpus Luteum cyst.

There are other 4 types of ovarian cysts so if none of these matches with what you suffer from, you will most probably find it in the part II of this post.
