Your Questions About Uterine Fibroids

Helen asks…
Uterine Fibroids?
I have been diagnosed by uterine fibroids, does anyone knows how fast is the rate of their growth? how can one determine if they are the kind that grow fast or not?

Clare answers:
Usually the uterine fibroids dont develop too fast. Exeption is during pregnancy, when fibroid tumors often grow extremely fast due the extra estrogen produced by the body during pregnancy. Visit your gyno soon!
All the best.

Sandy asks…
uterine fibroids?
If you have early signs but unconfirmed uterine fibroids on an ultrasound report will a gynecologist typically just do the “wait and see” thing or should other tests be done? if so what tests might she recommend? I had the ultrasound because of chronic abdominal/pelvic pain and abnormal bleeding.
I’ll be seeing my gyno on monday and am trying to be best prepared to make the most of my time. the u/s showed some abnormal areas that suggests fibroids are starting to form.
how do they know if they are benign? do they have to do a biopsy? what I have is not very big at all. I’m only 27, and am done having chilren but no hysterectomy for me!

Clare answers:
Hey Sandy, heavy bleeding and abdominal pain could be a sign of other gynaecological problems, like ovarian cysts or endometriosis. Your gyno should be able to find out fibroids and cysts from ultrasound exam. You may want to check your own iniciative and check out symptoms of ovarian cysts, endometriosis symptoms and fibroids symptoms and see if you find anything else there that you may recognize.
When the fibroids are just starting to form it is very unlikely that they would be benign. You dont need to get hysterectomy, as it is possible to treat your fibroids completely naturally.
