Your Questions About Do Ovarian Cysts Cause Gas

Lisa asks…

Horrible, excruciating pain in rectal/vaginal area?

I have been having these god awful, cramp/spam like pains in my rectal and vaginal wall area. I don’t know what triggers it but today it keeps worsening with movement, usually increased pressure like sitting down. Also causes spasms if I strain, like trying to pass gas or something. The pain is so severe I have to very slowly sit and let it peak and pass. The pain is mostly around my rectal area but it definitely travels to what feels like the walls of my vagina. I think it is proctalgia fugax but I’ve had this pain when I sit down for the past six hours…… I’ve had it before and its ranged from one spasm to long episodes like these. I’m currently on my period but idk if that has anything to do with it!

My fam has a history of colon cancer, and my mom is all scared that I have it. I’m 20 and currently adjusting to a vegan diet, so I have a lot of abdominal troubles. I don’t have any other symptoms of colorectal cancer so I’m not super worried. Do you think this is proctalgia fugax? Or is it something else causing these issues?

I do have benign ovarian cysts and I get odd cramps (nothing like these sharp shooting pains) after sex/orgasm. Someone mentioned the cysts causing this kind of pain, but I don’t know that truth behind that. The only thing that doesn’t really fit with what people have said about proctalgia fugax is pursue and massage deceases pain, but it increases it for me! Its excruciating at the peak of the spasms :( please help. I’m going to try to squeeze in a visit to the doc next week but at the same time I’m sort of afraid to go.

Sorry the post is a little incoherent. Typing on my phone. Hurts too much to get up >.<
Hmm youre right, it may be the stress, tho not from this issue. With combo of things today was so stressful for me I felt nauseated most of the time. I don’t usually get so stressed so today wa something new and this is the longest these pains have lasted. Thanks :) I’ll hopefully see this gone by tomorrow, at least for another few months.

But, the cramping from the cysts is very, very different from this pain >.< I found a forum where a lot of people experience exactly what I’m describing but no one had any answers.

Clare answers:

Hey Lisa,

Sorry to hear about your pain. The ovarian cyst can be painful but while you said you had it before and the pain was different, the proctalgia fugax would probably not be lasting so long, I would guess you may have endometriosis. Endometriosis can cause a sharp stinging pain in different areas of abdominal area, dependent where exactly it has grown.

If your has grown near rectus or your bowels, you will feel various intensity of a pain whenever food or gas comes through.  Everything in female’s abdomen is so close to each other and one thing has an influence to the others.

I would certainly not postpone visit to a doctor, ideally gynaecologist and let him/her do a full pelvic exam. Though endometriosis would not be seen on ultrasound, other complications would – make sure you exclude other suspicions.

For meanwhile and to relief your pain, I would recommend you to visit this helpful site about endometriosis:

Hope you will get better soon.
